Expanding on its recently launched hot bending service, Barnshaws Section Benders is now offering this production method for thick-wall steel plate, providing an efficient option for producing thick wall cylinders. Ideal for demanding piping or structural applications, Barnshaws can fabricate cylinders down to an internal diameter of 300 mm with a thickness of up to 150 mm.

Thick-walled cylinders see wide use in a number of challenging applications in the engineering, oil and gas, structural, petrochemical, nuclear and pressure vessel industries. The thick walls offer increased resistance to pressure or aggressive media, a key concern for operators within these sectors. As is typical of all Barnshaws’ steel bending or fabrications, all cylinders are offered with full traceability and all relevant certifications.

The new service cements Barnshaws’ position as one of the most capable metal bending specialists in the world, and in conjunction with its comprehensive welding expertise, offers customers a one-stop-shop for all thick-wall cylinder needs. Barnshaws is now accepting orders, with machine capacity already assigned to deliver cylinders on short lead times.

Matthew Pritchard, Group Project Manager at Barnshaws, commented: “We want our customers to stop and start at Barnshaws, which has been a main driver for our expansion of services over the last few months. We often receive requests for these thick-walled cylinders, so we felt the need to react and offer our customers an integrated and efficient approach towards these fabrications all under one roof. In terms of our plate capacity, it’s a big boost, so we are in a position to take on projects of almost any size.”

About Barnshaws

Established in 1969, Barnshaws has grown to become the world’s premier specialist profile bending company; supplying market sectors such as construction, power generation, mining, transport and general manufacturing with shaped beams, tubes, plate and other profile section materials. More recent developments have seen the company’s engineering expertise expand from mostly steel to non-ferrous materials including copper and aluminium as well as specialist materials such as Hardox.

Barnshaws has ISO 9001:2015 approval and was Europe’s first bending company to achieve CE Marking of curved sections to Execution class 4, the highest standard available.

With facilities in the West Midlands, Manchester, Hamilton and Poland, Barnshaws can provide precision metal bending and profile cutting services, locally, nationally and internationally.

Equipped with the largest capacity bending machines in the world, Barnshaws can deliver curved sections up to 35 meters in length with the capacity to bend tubes and pipes up to 1,524mm outside diameter. In addition, the largest range of press brakes in the UK can accommodate materials up to 12 metres in length and form sections from materials up to 80mm in thickness, this together with a vast range of rolling machines enables Barnshaws to offer rolled cylinders from 350 to 4200mm diameter with wall thicknesses upto 100 mm, all of which can be supplied in the welded condition singly or in multiple belt lengths.
