JOST UK will once again have a major presence at Tip-Ex (30 May to 1 June 2019, Harrogate Convention Centre), the must-attend event for those involved in the tipper and bulk transport industries, with a major indoor stand (Number A4-A5) and its famous BBQ outside at Location MC15.

JOST UK is the market leader for truck and trailer components, tipping cylinders and hydraulics, axle systems, fifth wheels and equipment for agricultural vehicles. Its brands include JOST, Edbro, TRIDEC, ROCKINGER and JOST Axle Systems.

One of the main products on display will be the new Edbro CD cylinder, which is designed to optimise the performance of ejection trailers and refuse collection vehicles, so that they are a fast, reliable and cost-effective alternative to tipping of bulk materials. The CD cylinder is a double acting, telescopic unit, so is able to both push and pull using hydraulic power.

With strokes of up to 11.5 metres, push forces reaching 80 tonnes and corrosion-resistant chrome plating as standard, the CD range can meet the requirements of almost any application. Ejection trailers overcome the disadvantage of tipper trucks, which can be unstable when the load is raised, and are an alternative to ‘walking floors’ which can be expensive and require considerable maintenance.

Edbro will also be showing its new UT hydraulic valve for tipping mechanisms, which will allow faster lowering and therefore lead to quicker turnaround times, so will increase productivity, particularly on repetitive operations such as moving materials in quarries. The UT range has an optimised internal design which reduces flow restrictions for the hydraulic oil. It replaces and is completely interchangeable with older CT valves, allowing operators to maintain their existing hydraulic kits simply by swapping out the old valves for the new ones.

Danny Broomfield, JOST’s Sales Director for UK & Ireland, notes that the big drivers in tipper technology at present are productivity, safety and ecology: “The UT valve improves productivity and the CD cylinder helps promote safety. We also have a range of sensors that monitor trailer couplings and give the drivers an in-cab display so that they can be confident that they are secure and able to operate safely.

“On the environmental front we can now say that all our tipping cylinders are compatible with bio-oils, which are very much greener than the traditional hydrocarbon based oils and perform just as well. We also have a new biodegradable grease for fifth wheel couplings.”

JOST’s new grease has been formulated to conform to the OECD 301 B biodegradation test and in independent tests has received the rating of “readily biodegradable”. It can be used with JOST’s LubeTronic electronic dispenser, which minimises lubrication consumption by maintaining exactly the right amount of grease on the fifth wheel at all times. A typical fifth wheel coupling requires about 10 kilograms of lubricating grease per year, and with over half a million fifth wheel vehicles in Europe alone eco-grease stands to make a significant contribution to ecological standards.

JOST is renowned for its high performance axle systems, such as the steerable JPS 9000, a 9 tonne pusher axle which can be customised to individual requirements, and is ideal for vehicles that must be highly manoeuvrable. Engineers will be available on the Tip-EX stand, ready to discuss the full axle range.

Danny again: “While Tip-Ex is a very important show for the whole bulk haulage industry, it is also a good-fun event. Our BBQ is always buzzing and offers a brilliant opportunity for informal chats and networking.”
