NSK’s new integrated bearing assembly units have been designed specifically to address the challenges faced by manufacturers and repairers of vibrating screens and are now available throughout the UK from ERIKS. The new units integrate high strength housings, vibratory- specification bearings, seals, bolts and washers, into bespoke assemblies that are pre-greased and ready to install. This reduces inventory, installation and warranty costs, and improves long-term performance of the bearing unit; making it a product that is ideally suited to ERIKS portfolio of low-maintenance MRO products and the company-wide philosophy of reducing down-time wherever possible.

In addition to easy access and support via the ERIKS service centre network, the screen units help to improve the competitiveness of screen manufacturers repairers and end users in a number of key ways. First, all of the design work and unit assembly is undertaken by NSK, reducing in-house design, and purchasing and stock holding costs for OEMs. Second, the screen manufacturer or fitter does not have to undertake in-house sub-assembly, and final assembly and maintenance time on the machine is reduced substantially. Third, installation does not require a separate “Clean” bearing assembly area, or in-house heating equipment for fitting bearings into housings making them an ideal product for fitting on-site.

The bespoke bearing assemblies comprise SG iron high strength housings, integrating CAM-VS vibratory specification bearings, labyrinth and contact seals, to deny the ingress of contaminants. The assemblies are pre-greased and ready to fit, with bearing location features and provision for re-greasing. The series of spherical roller bearings used are designed specifically to provide improved bearing life under severe operating conditions, and can reduce levels of both vibration and noise by 50 – 60 percent.

The vibratory specification of the CAM-VS series provides increased fatigue strength against the effects of vibration and shock loads conditions. The bearings are manufactured from high cleanliness steel to improve their operating life and are equipped with brass cages to combat the effects of vibration, operating fatigue, wear and corrosion.

“The cost saving and ease of installation of integrated bearing assemblies are well understood and appreciated across a number of key industries,” said Steve Weaver, Product Manager, ERIKS Core Competence Centre for Bearings. “We are now bringing these same benefits to screen manufacturers and maintenance operatives, but with the added advantages of reduced maintenance and key performance improvements for the tough operating conditions of this industry sector.”
