Hylec-APL introduces the smallest junction boxes on the market to offer full IP68 sealing
Hylec-APL, specialist supplier of electrical and electronic components, has launched a new range of small electrical junction boxes designed to provide a quick and easy-to-wire outdoor waterproof cable connection. Incorporating a silicone gel filling the junction boxes provide IP68 protection, the smallest quick-fix junction boxes with this level of protection available on the market. The range is primarily targeted at outdoor lighting manufacturers though would be suitable for most domestic and commercial applications.
The new junction box measures just 45x95x24mm meaning that it takes up minimal space. The 4 way cable entry is available in a range of three sizes which accept cable dimensions between 6.5mm and 12mm(Ø) depending on the range. The enclosure uses a common terminal block to make the connection which is then surrounded by silicone gel to form a seal. The enclosure clips shut and can be easily reopened using a screwdriver. The innovative use of silicone gel provides excellent waterproofing, operating temperatures from -50°C to +150°C, high elastic memory which allows the box to be re-used and a life span of well over 10 years.
Robert MacDougall of Hylec-APL comments: “Other enclosures on the market that use a gel filling to secure the contents do not facilitate reuse. The Paguro range does not require the gel to be mixed during installation and its high elastic memory means it is possible to remove and fix a connection then replace it without replacing the gel. This allows a level of practicality unavailable from other gel filled enclosures.”
The enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP68 at a depth of up to 1.3m which makes it ideal for underground connections for lighting systems. The Paguro junction boxes are available in blue, green and yellow which indicate which cable diameter they are suited for as well as providing an aesthetically pleasing connection when on display. The junction boxes are packaged “ready to use” and include the terminal block and screws required for making the connection and the silicone gel.
