HOLROYD CONTINUES SUCCESS IN EXPORT MARKETS WITH £2.4M ORDER FOR WORLD’S LARGEST ROTOR MILLING MACHINE.

Holroyd Precision Ltd, part of the Precision Technologies Group (PTG), has continued its success in export markets with a £2.4million order from a Far Eastern customer for a Holroyd 8EX rotor milling machine; the largest machine of its type in the world. Due for delivery in February 2009, the 8EX machine has a swing of 900mm and is for the production of screw rotors for the gas processing industry.

“This machine is the largest rotor miller ever made, however we now have enquiries for even larger machines,” said Mike Duignan, Sales Director of PTG. “At present there is a rapid growth in the requirement of large gas processing systems. Holroyd is key to this development with our expertise in screw rotor profiles and design coupled with ultra rigid machine construction for high speed high precision milling to produce high efficiency screw rotor technology, which provides gas compression for a wide range of applications.”

Prior to placement of the order, the Precision Components Division of the PTG Group proved the machining process for the large screw rotors, by producing pilot batches for the customer. The rotors, each one weighing over 6-tonnes, are manufactured from stainless steel to enable them to resist corrosion from the aggressive waste gases from a Styrene manufacturing process.

In addition to machining complex helical profiles on rotors and pump screws, the EX series machines are equally proficient at producing gear parts such as worm shafts. In all their operations the machines deliver class-leading performance and repeatability due to their unrivalled build quality, high speed dry milling technique and advanced technology, including on-machine probing. They also improve productivity in all manufacturing environments, with a combination of high-speed operation, powerful menu driven Holroyd touch Screen Control system (or optional Fanuc CNC), quick-change tooling, high power spindles, unbeatable rigidity and complete integration with automated parts handling systems.
