Europe’s largest and fastest growing manufacturer of aftermarket exhaust and catalytic converter products, Klarius, has launched its new range of Lambda sensors. Using the latest design and manufacturing processes they provide accurate emissions regulation for most production cars and are fully interchangeable with Original Equipment.

As the catalytic converter replacement market starts to grow, many service stations are not routinely fitting replacement Lambda sensors with every replacement cat. The old sensors can cause false fault warnings and even damage perfectly good catalyst units if not replaced; hence Klarius and its UK exhaust brand TIMAX are embarking on a campaign of education on Lambda sensors. The sensors have been launched in a stand alone Lambda sensor catalogue stacked with over 500 product references.

The Klarius range is suitable for most production cars, with 568 products available. The sensors offer notable advantages over other leading replacement brands in design and fitment, in fact Klarius is confident that all of its sensors will match or beat the performance of a cars OE sensor.

Bill Godfrey: “All of our sensors go through an extensive design process before they are released onto the market. We ensure that each one performs to the standards our customers have come to expect. We have complete faith in all of our products including sensors which is why they all come with a full 2 year warranty”

Klarius now supplies both heated and unheated Zirconia sensors. Heated Zirconia sensors reach operating temperature from as little as 15 seconds and have a service life of up to 100k miles, compared to the unheated sensors maximum operating life of 50k miles. These sensors use Zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) to create a voltage through chemical reactions with the exhaust gasses. The voltage, which is affected by O2 levels, is then fed to the EMS.

Klarius also offers Titania sensors, typically employing 5 wires, one of which is live with a constant 5v feed, and a multi coated printed circuit. These sensors have a faster communication with the EMS and are capable of reaching operating temperature in 10-15 seconds. Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) is used, which changes its electrical resistance in response to O2 levels. These sensors are often found in Japanese marques and typically provide improved emissions due to their increased accuracy.

It is vital that, which ever type is equipped, Lambda sensors are regularly checked. They do wear with age and it is important to replace worn ones in order to keep the motor running efficiently. As the sensors age their communication with the EMS begins to slow down which affects the ability of the EMS to regulate the air to fuel ratio. Sensors are not tested during a cars MOT so need to be tested independently.

Bill Godfrey, UK Sales Manager for Klarius: “When trying to improve a vehicle's efficiency it is often people’s first instinct to replace the exhaust system or catalytic converter. While it is obviously important that these are checked it is equally important to ensure that the engine is running efficiently. Having accurate Lambda sensors that aren’t overly worn is the best way of ensuring that an engine is performing efficiently.”

Klarius’ Lambda sensors are developed in a 35,000 sq. ft. facility with a full on-site technical centre and on-site precious metal coating. The site allows fast track development of new products, ensuring they are always at the forefront of sensor technology.

Today, the Klarius exhaust range includes over 5,500 references and covers 97% of the European car park, and includes production and distribution across Europe. In addition, the past year has seen over £1million invested in the UK manufacturing sites, including the introduction of an advanced Technical Centre, designed to improve the quality and delivery of Klarius Group products.
