Klarius Cheadle Manufacturing Plant Returns To 5 Day Week and Expands Export Business Substantially

After an investment of over £1.2million in UK manufacturing and RnD over the last 18 months, Klarius, manufacturer of the UK based TIMAX brand of exhausts and catalytic converters has returned to a 5 day working week at it’s Cheadle manufacturing, test and development site on the Brookhouses Industrial Estate.

The company was purchased from its US owner in August 2007, at that time the division was making a substantial operating loss, in a startling achievement the new independent ownership and management team have changed that around very quickly and Klarius is now a profit making enterprise, safeguarding hundreds of UK jobs, including a large number at the Cheadle plant.

After some necessary redundancies last year, the company started employing new staff again in January this year, the ten new jobs created are to support the growth area of the business exporting into Europe,

Andy Taylor, Logistics Manager Klarius Cheadle plant comments, “We used to just export to the Scandinavian countries from this site, but since the buyout we have increased the number of exhausts we now manufacture for the replacement market substantially, this means our despatch and logistics operation has been expanded to handle daily shipments to France, Germany, Spain, Austria Switzerland, Czech Rep, and others.”

“We have taken on ten new staff, around half of them on permanent contracts since January to cope with the expansion. We have used local agencies to source the staff and have found extremely good quality candidates locally, which we have been very pleased about. If all goes to plan and our export business continues to grow, we will be looking to make further positions available later in the year”.

“Looking to the future, the problems facing the new car market are not adversely affecting us yet as we manufacture replacement parts and people are investing in keeping older cars running. By specifying quality type-approved products made at our plants drivers can also save 3p per litre in fuel costs when compared to a poor quality replacement system manufactured elsewhere”.
