GMF goes ‘green’ Ma5da racing with full race catalytic converter and exhaust system.
GMF motor factors, a real business success story in the South Wales, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire region where it operates has now launched a race team to compete in the Ma5da MX5 championship. The car they are using, a 1.6l Mazda MX5 is very special since it is running with a fully optimised catalytic converter and exhaust system from race sponsors Klarius, manufacturers of the well-known TIMAX brand of replacement exhausts and cats in the UK.
Wyn Jones, GMF General Manager comments, “We are in-it-to-win-it!”
“We have been meticulous about the preparation of this car and aim to win the series out-right. Normally a race car would not use a catalytic converter as it is not mandatory at the moment, but we are a forward thinking company and we spend a lot of time using our technical teams to educate fitters and garages about the benefits of using better quality replacement parts on vehicles. The race catalyst provided by Klarius combined with the optimised exhaust will reduce harmful emissions significantly from our car, but also provide a power advantage at the same time.”
The Ma5da MX5 Championship has a current grid in excess of 40 registered cars for the 2009 season. A full 20 race calendar is being run over 9 rounds on the UK’s top race circuits. The series is receiving full Motors TV and Channel 5 televised coverage of every race, and full hospitality for all teams. Jones comments, “we intend to use the series to promote our company to the public, but also as an incentive scheme for our customers as we will be providing VIP visitor days throughout the year.”
Paul Hannah, Klarius Business Development Director comments,
“We have taken the opportunity to help turn British racing green again, by developing a race series exhaust and catalyst system that draws on the best aspects of a quality mass produced products such as our TIMAX brand and being the first to apply it to competitive racing. Using light-weight and highly corrosion resistant materials and advanced silencer technology, in combination with what we believe to be the first commercially available race developed catalytic converter, one that will work effectively to improve emissions and not result in any power loss we hope to help the GMF team be as competitive as possible and as technically advanced as they can be.”
