Sulzer sponsors Ricketts Park stadium for prestigious Connie Mack World Series baseball tournament

For 55 years, Farmington, New Mexico has hosted the Connie Mack World Series (CMWS), a baseball tournament that gathers highly talented teams of 16 - 18 year olds at Ricketts Park stadium. Organized by the American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC), every year teams battle to take the title, as well as catch the eyes of attending scouts from Major League baseball teams. The 2019 tournament has been sponsored by Sulzer’s Farmington Service Center, a leading solutions and service provider for rotating equipment.

This year’s tournament gathered 12 teams that had progressed through qualifiers held in venues throughout Farmington. The event ran throughout the summer and offered local businesses the opportunity to sponsor the awarding-winning Ricketts Park baseball field, Sulzer’s Farmington Service Center was quick to offer their support for the tournament.

Joe Day, Operations Lead at Farmington Service Center, was delighted to be involved: “We’re part of a small community of around 45’000 people here at Farmington, and Ricketts Park is an important sports arena. The stadium has seen legendary baseball players such as Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Larkin scouted and signed from high school to the professional game, so it’s a prestigious venue to sponsor. We’ve seen some large business changeovers in Farmington, so it’s important the local companies here support the community where they can.”

After a week of intense play, the Midland Redskins and the SoCal Renegades faced off to be crowned champions. Following an absorbing game, Midland came out victors with a final score of 9-2, becoming the 55th AABC – CMWS 2019 Champions.

Joe concludes: “This sponsorship is part of a wider approach to the community. We are active at local expos and job fairs, offering young people access to career opportunities at Sulzer. Promoting youth via sport is just as important, so we will be looking to participate in next year’s tournament, as we’ve really enjoyed our involvement.”
