THE REAL COST OF CHEAP WAREHOUSING CHAIN…….
The fact that initial lowest cost for a component or system often proves to be the most expensive in the longer term has resulted in a concentration across all sectors of industry on the issue of whole life costs. The issue is essentially a dichotomy, with the OEM on the one side, and the user, the other. The OEM’s objective, to achieve the lowest installed cost for equipment, whilst the user requires improved reliability and longer operating life.

TSUBAKI REDIFINES WEAR & LIFE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS WITH NEW WAREHOUSE CONVEYOR CHAIN.

Toughest roller chain reduces costs by £40,000+
One of the largest producers of MDF and particleboard in Europe has compared the cost of ownership for several popular brands of roller chain over a three year period at one the company’s main production plants. The samples varied from the cheapest available through to the highest quality lube-free roller chains; each was compared in a simple wear test. The aim of the practical test was to establish figures for outright longevity in an arduous application on the ‘forming line’, an area of the board production process that had the highest turnover of chain.

sara Doors help Otter Brewery keep its cool…
Otter Brewery has installed a sequentially opening loading bay door system supplied by sara LBS to support its naturally cooled ‘eco-cellar’

EFFECTIVE LOADING BAY DESIGN IS ABOUT ATTENTION TO KEY CRITERIA….says Mike Bunn, MD of sara Loading Bay Specialists.
Designing, specifying and installing an optimised loading bay area does not have to be a painful process, provided adequate research is undertaken beforehand. Just talking to people with the right experience can make the difference between taking a potentially costly leap in the dark and making a confident, well-informed decision.

EASE OF ACCESS & SPEED OF OPERATION OF MACHINERY PROTECTION DOORS PROVE THAT PRODUCTIVITY & SAFETY ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE.
sara’s new Sprint 300MP machinery protection door proves that productivity and safety don’t have to be mutually exclusive. The Sprint’s rapid opening and closing, with speeds of up to 2,3m/s, ensures short cycle times when gaining access to machines; while the robust Sprint construction provides optimum protection for personnel against hazards such as flying sparks and welding splatter, and environmental hazards such as dust and noise.

NEW CLEAN ROOM DOOR CONTRIBUTES TO GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICE (GMP) BY IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF CLEAN ROOMS.
sara’s new Sprint 300 Plus clean room door enables pharmaceutical and food companies to achieve good manufacturing practice (GMP), by improving the quality of clean rooms. The high speed and flexible configuration of the Sprint 300 Plus - with optional FDA approved materials - mean that it is particularly suitable for areas where there is an air pressure difference, such as clean rooms. In these environments the Sprint also provides energy saving, and maximum safety provision, with an electrically monitored contact safety beam, and a clear safety curtain that allows personnel to see movement on either side, essential in facilities that employ automated transport.

CUTTING HEAT LOSS THROUGH LOADING BAYS USING HIGH SPEED DOORS IS KEY TO REDUCED ENERGY COSTS & IMPROVED COMPETITIVENESS
Energy costs have taken a temporary dip in the present recessionary economic climate. However, they are unlikely to stay low for long. Energy is one of the largest costs faced by manufacturers across all industry sectors; so in addition to reducing consumption to promote a company’s green credentials, it also makes economic sense to cut energy costs as a means of improving competitiveness.

OPTIMISING BEARING MAINTENANCE COSTS START WITH DESIGN…says Adrian Menzies, Sales & Marketing Director of UK Split Roller bearing manufacturer, Revolvo Ltd.
High maintenance costs and poor reliability are often the result of improper selection and sizing of rolling bearings. When most engineering designers embark upon the task of specifying rolling bearings the chances are that they will not start with a clean piece of paper. In fact, in most cases, their selection will be based on what has gone before: the references provided by successful applications in pumps, transmissions, motors, and conveyors etc being too strong to ignore. Any variances from the established application norm will usually be of a peripheral nature, typically concerning sealing and lubricant selection.
