Intensive cooperation with MPDV Mikrolab GmbH, Germany’s leader in discrete Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) results in a joint go-to-market partnership to help manufacturers define their future automation roadmap.

Mosbach, 31st July 2010; The Factory Automation Division of Mitsubishi Electric and MPDV Mikrolab GmbH announce their strategic partnership to provide integrated MES- and automation solutions for discrete manufacturers.

Based on successful joint projects and a strong belief in a “best-of-breed” future, Mitsubishi Electric and MPDV will provide joint consulting solutions to manufacturers. This allows manufacturers to define an open as well as a standardized roadmap, where they can integrate and automate from using a single signal from the shop floor into the ERP layer Mitsubishi Electric’s value in the partnership is centered on offering the best-in-class solution for MES applications. With their integrated iQ Automation Platform that includes PLC, Robot, CNC and Motion control in one system, they are the first choice for shop floor control. The iQ Platform offers a secure, robust, direct connection to the MES/ERP layer, free of the maintenance and security issues associated with PC solutions. The Mitsubishi MES IT module connects all shop floor data directly to the MPDV Hydra solution. With direct realtime information and the power of MPDV, customers are able to make the right decision at the right time.

MPDV’s Hydra MES fills the functional gap between production resources (machines) and sales as well as backoffice processes in a factory. The global megatrend is to gradually move away from expensive make-to-stock production towards ever smaller lot-sizes.

This allows reduction of stock and WIP, but can result in major organizational challenges:

1. Scheduling requirements of customer orders

2. Increased traceability requirements

3. Personnel assignment

4. Variable quality control

Hydra MES offers software to master these challenges and improve manufacturing operations management.
