In certain applications, tipping may not be the safest or most efficient means of ejecting goods from a trailer – height restrictions or uneven ground for example. The CD range of cylinders from Edbro is designed to optimise the performance of Ejection Trailers, which are a fast, reliable and cost-effective alternative to tipping bulk materials. Edbro has over 100 years of industry experience so is able to provide trailer builders with reliable cylinders and optimised hydraulic solutions, making trailer supply simpler than ever.

The CD cylinder range is an all-new design of double acting, telescopic cylinder. Unlike most cylinders that rely on gravity to retract, the CD range is able to both push and pull using hydraulic power. The design borrows core technology from Edbro’s industry-leading C-Series of tipping cylinders, which are known to deliver a Lighter, Faster & Stronger performance. With strokes of up to 11.5 metres, push forces reaching 80 tonnes and corrosion-resistant chrome plating as standard, the CD range is sure to meet the requirements of almost any application.

Peter Smith, Sales and Marketing Director, explains: “The primary application of the CD range will be to push and pull the blade of an ejection trailer or refuse collection vehicle. However, they will be suited to any number of specialist applications in which loads must be pushed and pulled. As with all Edbro products, we’ve built the CD range to become the industry standard in terms of strength, quality and reliability.”

The CD range replaces Edbro’s long standing RK range of cylinders, with the new design delivering a step-change in performance and efficiency. The same light weight, high strength, laser welding technique used for the C-Series cylinders are adopted; delivering around 10% (or 60 kg) in weight-saving and increasing the pressure capabilities when compared to the RK range. The CD range also features a reduction in working oil volume and an increase in stop contact faces, which allows faster pump flows to reduce the cycle time of the cylinder – improving operator efficiency.

Another technology taken from the C-Series is the compact cylinder head that allows the installed mounting centre to be optimised and the load carrying volume of the trailer to increase. The CD range offers savings of around 200 mm on the mounting centre of larger cylinder models, which translates to approximately 1 cubic meter of additional payload.

All Edbro cylinders are designed and built at its European manufacturing facility, with approved dealers and service centres located worldwide. To complement the CD cylinder range, Edbro offers a wide range of hydraulic kits to power and control the cylinder, eliminating the challenge of designing and sourcing complex hydraulic systems. Customers benefit from a complete and reliable turnkey solution with the same ‘fit and forget’ reliability.
