N. J. Docksey Ltd. is supporting some of the largest and most important infrastructure construction projects currently underway in London. Responsible for maintaining constant supplies of building materials to site, this demanding work requires wholly reliable vehicles. This is why the haulage firm specifies JOST axle systems, to ensure that its vehicles are always in top condition and ready for action.

N. J. Docksey Ltd operates a fleet of over 40 tankers, curtain-siders and flatbed trucks out of Leek, Staffordshire, and over half of its vehicles are fitted with JOST axles. One of its core services is the delivery of building materials to major construction sites - often working on a just-in-time basis, as city centre sites usually have very limited space for storage of materials and equipment.

For example, it is supplying materials to London Underground’s Northern Line extension project as well as supporting the Thames Tideway ‘super sewer’ scheme. The latter project includes building a 25 km (16 mile) tunnel, largely under the river, capable of holding most of London’s raw sewage and rainwater run-off prior to treatment.

Nigel Docksey, founder and Managing Director of the trucking company, comments: “Supplying these important and long-running projects is both a privilege and a responsibility because total reliability of delivery is vital. Our vehicles have to be first-class, well-built and perfectly maintained, so that we can be sure they are available and ready to go whenever a delivery is needed.

“The JOST axles are an important element in our overall strategy. They are easy for us to service and maintain in our workshop, lightweight so we can maximise our load carrying, and reliable out on the road. The feedback we hear is that they are the best on the market.”

The range of axles includes pusher and tag axles, steerable and liftable options, single and multiple axle configurations. JOST can also work with customers to develop customised and bespoke solutions for particular requirements, the objective always being to provide safe and efficient systems that enable vehicles to transport loads effectively.

N. J. Docksey generally runs the JOST DCA axles (Durable, Compact Axle) on its trucks. These are mounted using a special hanger bracket that integrates into the chassis and thus ensures ease of service by making changing brake discs and pads a straightforward job. In fact, serviceability is designed into the whole system, so that inspection, maintenance and repairs are all quick and simple.

As a global company, JOST has to meet an incredibly wide spectrum of different user requirements, so has developed a modular range of axle components that can be assembled in different configurations. This way, each axle system can be matched to the needs of its application, while servicing requirements are met with a relatively small number of components and fitting procedures.

Nigel Docksey concludes: “We have been running our family haulage business for 25 years and have grown steadily from running a single articulated lorry to being a highly respected fleet operator known for meeting every challenge set before us. To be able to maintain this level of customer service we need vehicles designed and built so that they run efficiently and safely between services. As such, JOST axles, which last for the whole life of the vehicle, meet our needs precisely.”
